Protest Against Violence

human_chain_10_JanuaryTHP Bangladesh has initiated a nation-wide protest against rape, in collaboration with some other congruous organizations and individuals. In this process, on 21 January, 2013 afternoon, THP Bangladesh arranged a sitting protest in the premises of the National Parliament, with around 1500 participants. A significant no. of renowned individuals, along with 86 Organizations were present. Earlier, on 10 January,2013 afternoon,

THP Bangladesh arranged a Human Chain in the premises of the National Parliament, where thousands of people participated, representing 95 organizations and out of individual responsibility. Previously, The Hunger Project Bangladesh and National Girl Child Advocacy Forum have organized a Human Chain on 3 January, 2013 in front of the National Press Club raising voice to bring the rapists of a young girl child and their perpetrators to exemplary penalty. More than 400 representatives of 37 organizations, institutions and the civil society have participated in the assembly and expressed their revulsion against these rapscallions. In the protest, Country Director of The Hunger Project, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar mentioned rape as a social crime spreading out in an alarming pace, causing a serious havoc to our socio-cultural and moral structure. He requests the Government to take immediate & necessary steps to ensure exemplary penalty for the rapists. Nasima Akhter Joly, Deputy Director (Programs), The Hunger Project & Secretary, NGCAF, urged to the government to ensure the optimum security of the girl children and women, through improving the reformation of existing laws and prioritizing the implementation of them to resist such incidents. THP Bangladesh shows utmost gratitude to the renowned Civil Society representatives, including Adv. Sultana Kamal, Dr. Kamal Hossain, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Jafar Iqbal, Ms. Rokeya Afzal, Prof. Dilara Chowdhury, Rokeya Prachi, Selina Banu, Adv. Rashida Haq, Aminul Islam Shujon, Prof. Latifa Akand, Tazima Hossain Majumdar, Rehana Parvin, Atikur Rahman & many other and all of the organizations for showing their fraternity in this series of protest through their participation.
